If you were to look at my makeup drawers, you'd quickly learn how much of an complexion-enthusiast I am. Whether it's color correction, foundation, tinted moisturizer, or concealer, it matters that I stay true to the under and overtones of my skin. Beyond that, it is equally important to examine how my makeup layers with other products that I'm applying. All that said, I have had nightmarish experiences with concealers. With less ripping and running (due to the pandemic) and more Zoom meetings than I care to count, I still rely on my base products to keep me looking bright, plump, and fresh as possible. This is why I knew I had to try Fenty Beauty's new Bright Fix Eye Brightener ($25).

The legacy of Rihanna's beauty brand is built on ensuring makeup wearers with darker complexions can find their shades for different areas of the face. I'm a huge fan of Fenty Beauty's Pro-Filt'r concealers and hydrating foundations, so hearing that the new eye brighteners come in 16 shades, including four that operate as color correctors, comes as no surprise.

The multi-hyphenate talent is no stranger to blessing the world with elaborate, avant-garde, trend-setting makeup but there is one beauty feature I've always noticed about Rihanna: whether she's on the red carpet or performing, her under eye makeup always looks super hydrating. It is typically one of the drier parts of the face and while there are tricks to evading the unsightly "separated makeup" look, like applying eye cream right under your concealer or spraying a hydrating primer right after applying foundation, it can still be hard to manage. The bright fix is packed with a hydra blend complex composed of sodium hyaluronate and jojoba oil, both of which have anti-inflammatory properties and restore moisture. This sounded quite promising to me because I hate retouching or reapplying makeup throughout the day.

The brightening concealer comes in a small 0.34 FL OZ light pink tube with a clear top. It would be very easy to carry this in my makeup bag in the case of reapplication. One of the features of this product promises that it will create a makeup no makeup look, with sheer to buildable coverage. Knowing this, I decided to opt for a lighter base and apply a tinted moisturizer. There is nothing more infuriating than forgetting I applied a full coverage matte foundation but chose to place a sheer, medium-to nothing concealer on top. It creates more work in the end, making it harder to correct and make sure the lay of the makeup looks balanced and works harmoniously.

After applying my tinted moisturizer with a sponge, it was time to put the eye brightener to the test. Just like her Pro'filter concealers, it promises to blur and correct under eye darkness. I chose the shade "honey mustard" which is a warm olive color for medium deep to deep skin tones. As soon as I dropped some of the concealer on a clean finger, it felt like a skincare product because of how runny and rich the pigmentation was. The texture is very thin and serum-like. As a medium to full coverage makeup girl that worried me but I placed 4-5 small dots of the formula on my face and surprisingly it stayed intact. The instructions encouraged users to tap, not swipe the product so instead of my beauty blender, I channeled my inner influencer and tapped in the product. Immediately, my skin took to the formula and melted into the pigmentation of my base which is 2-3 shades darker than the concealer. The temperature of my finger seemed to aid in making sure the product warms up and blend into the rest of my makeup. It took about a minute or two to blend, you really have to press in so that the brightening feature doesn't compromise the look but thanks to the undertones of the product it didn't take that much work.

Within mere minutes, my under eye was brightened. Despite its sheer coverage it actually hid my dark circles. Not to mention, because of the watery, silk like texture, it did not feel as dry or tacky as a thick heavy duty coverage concealer.

The end result made me confident that it would not dry even after applying a powder, so I decided to use a damp sponge to dab a little translucent powder right on top and was thoroughly pleased of how refined and tight the skin was while still looking fresh and hydrated. If you are into wearing heavier makeup, this formula is easy to continue building on until you are satisfied. I would suggest making sure to use a tool like a sponge or concealer brush instead of your hands for better control and making sure the product absorbs into your skin.

I will 100 percent be restocking on this eye brightening product because of the instant results and long wear. I did a wear test during a heavy meeting day and was pleased that I only had to reapply once with less product than the initial application. I liked that I chose to use dewy to lighter base because it worked well with the overall "makeup no makeup" look. Fenty Beauty's Bright Fix Illuminator is definitely one I'll be keeping in my complexion makeup collection and I love that it dropped right before the warmer months because the hotter it gets, the lighter I prefer my makeup to be.
