Let's talk Dermaplaning

Someone asked if I’m into dermaplaning and the answer is YES! I have thick facial hair from a mustache to chin hairs, sis I have it all! I own a dermaplaning tool that I use at home by Flawless Beauty. I grabbed mine from Ulta Beauty! It comes with 4 in a pack and only cost me $10.

In other cases, I hit up my local skin esthetician for a full dermaplaning facial! She preps my skin, uses the dermaplaning tool and slabs on a product that works like an after-shave. This low-maintenance procedure generally takes about 30 to 40 minutes. Dermaplaning removes them first layer of skin which you may have heard it called peach fuzz also known as vellus hairs. The removal process naturally exfoliates your skin for a gorgeous natural glow. What I love about dermaplaning is that I see instant results whether I’m doing it at home or at my skin clinic.

One time my esthetician said the hair on my face is so thick that it’s difficult for products to absorb into my skin. And I have to say she is right! I noticed my skin responding better to polypeptide creams, night serums and my makeup laying on my skin flawlessly.

I recommend this treatment because it is pain-free, and inexpensive. I use it no more than twice a month as recommended by my esthetician. Which brings me to after receiving a facial! After-care is important and has heavy potential to set the trajectory of how your skin will react.

What should I do post-dermaplaning?

Per my skin doc, she advised:

1) I avoid wearing makeup for maximum 24 hours. Yes, that even means sheer concealers! Ingredients in cosmetics can offset the facial.

2) Wear SPF! By opting to slab on sunscreen, you’re providing extra protection from UV rays and skin damage.

3) Be gentle! For me, this meant not exfoliating and going for more gentle foam cleansers for 1-2 days.

Before you go running for the blade, be sure to assess your skin, record its progress or reactions and stop if you find it’s too harsh for your skin. I did not consult a professional before buying blades and going all the way in, but I wish I did. Fortunately, I did not experience a horror story but after talking to a professional I learned that I was not stroking correctly. There’s an art to it that over time, I was hell-bound for skin damage and tiny cuts. You can shave your face safely at home, but it never hurts to consult if you still have questions after your own research!

Happy shaving!!!! 🔪
